The Gardens of Spiazzi – a Little Village in Italy, Province of Verona.

About Spiazzi, Italy.

Today I would like to share with you some of my photographs from the little village of Spiazzi located in the province of Verona, region Veneto in Italy.

I was there a few years ago when on a tour of Northern Italy. Spiazzi is very beautifully located on hills climbing from the Lake Garda with much higher mountains visible  in the distance. The closest highest mountain is Monte Baldo, with the elevation of 2,218 m (7,277 ft).

While in Spiazzi, it is possible to see the edge of the Lake Garda from some locations. I was lucky since I was able to see it from the window of my hotel – “Hotel Posta”, where is also a restaurant and caffè . There are a few small hotels in the village and I think you can also find rooms, and even villas for rent. The views from Spiazzi on the surrounding mountains, Lake Garda, pastures and forest are very picturesque.

Besides admiring the view and enjoying a meal in local restaurants,  you can also take a very nice walk down the hill to the close by interesting  Sanctuary of the Madonna Della Corona (Our Lady of the Corona) attached to the side of the vertical wall at the height of 774 m.  The walk to the sanctuary takes about 20 minutes and you can see on the way many modern bronze sculptures depicting the Passion of Jesus Christ.

The church dates back to the 1522 when legend says the little sculpture of Madonna miraculously appeared here transported by angels from the island of Rhodes. This triggered the construction of the bigger church, started in 1625, which was build  4 meters above the previous one. The church was partly demolished in 1974 and then reconstructed. I plan to post some more pictures from the way to the sanctuary and the church on my other blog soon. Here I include just a couple of pictures to give you some idea how it looks. I will be not showing more pictures of the sanctuary on Vibrant Garden blog since they are not related to gardening.

While in Spiazzi, I have admired a few beautiful gardens and I really love how in some places roses were climbing on the surrounding walls, fences and even trees. Besides many roses, I have also noticed some other flowers in gardens I have walked by.  Here you can see some of my best pictures of gardens and flowers I was able to take there. I hope theses photographs will inspire your garden design and also can encourage you to travel to see this beautiful place by yourself.
